Kozhi Sidney Makai is a young "multi-hyphenate" who desires one thing: to be a resource to others. Multi-hyphenate? Yes. Author, poet, educator, social researcher, speaker, life strategist, advisor, business entrepreneur, trainer, and social entrepreneur...
Author of award-winning social research, business and self-help books, professor to undergraduate and graduate students, speaker to small and medium-sized business, nonprofits, and educational institutions, advisor and trainer to business executives including Fortune 500 companies, and social entrepreneur across the globe for causes from Multiple Sclerosis to literacy programs.
As he loves to say, he was "born and raised" in Zambia but "grew up" in Texas. At 19, Dr. Makai left a flourishing Zambia Basketball Association career as the Pioneers' and National Team starting small forward in search of "something more" - something that he found in the United States after stints in other parts of Africa, Europe, and Asia. A worldview in hand, he began his education at Lone Star College, founded Kozhi Makai Worldwide, and began his speaking career. A couple of years later, he transferred to Sam Houston State University with his liberal arts degree to study Speech Communication & Psychology. All together, he spent three and a half years on this degree.
Soon after, he completed his master's degree in Business Communication with a specialization in Leadership & Influence from Jones International University - in eight months - and his Ph.D in Applied Management & Decision Sciences with a specialization in Leadership & Organizational Change from Walden University in eighteen months.
Armed with specialized training and only 28, Dr. Makai embarked on refining the process he used for achievement to help individuals, and businesses alike, achieve goals in short periods of time. Using the strategies and philosophies he developed and embraced during his education, he now advises and coaches others to find their purpose and niche in life - and exploit it.
With his siblings spread across the globe from Johannesburg to Liege and London to Koh Samui, he considers himself a "Citizen of the World" or "Global Citizen." "If there was a global passport," he says, "I'd have it." Yet, his attention to local and community projects is reflected in his partnerships with organizations such as Education for Tomorrow Alliance and the Community Leadership Institute that allow him to mentor youth and young adults for excellence and growth.
A global leader by many standards, Dr. Makai's perspective on life shines through his love and compassion for others, and his untiring quest to find solutions that intrinsically improve the human condition.
